WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF TAC?

The Aeroplane Collection had its origins in the Northern Aircraft Preservation Society, when a handful of enthusiasts in Manchester joined forces to save Avro Avian G-EBZM, then a thirty-five year old aircraft from being burnt at Ringway.
Thus, in 1962, TAC became the first voluntary aircraft preservation society in the country.

WHERE IS THE COLLECTION?

The A.V. Roe Triplane replica, Avro Avian, Benson Gyrocopter, ‘Flying Flea’ and the oldest de Havilland Dragon Rapide in the world are on long term display in the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
An Auster J1 Alpha is presently being restored by TAC members, and we have acquired Anson C19, G-AGPG also for restoration. The remainder of the Collection is on loan to various aviation museums around the UK.

HOW IS IT RUN?

TAC membership is entirely voluntary and governed by trustees elected by the members.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in aviation. Apart from financial support through an annual subscription, members are encouraged to take an active part in the restoration and on-going maintenance of the aircraft, aero-engines and associated artifacts which make up the
